I am an artist born in New York City, and currently live in Inwood (Upper Manhattan). I make drawings that explore the edge of my ability to notice and capture detail. I hope people have calm attention when looking at my work, and perhaps see how heavily my hand has touched every part of the image. My work encourages thoughts about how we look at the world, and where our visual experience of it ends. I am also interested in what happens when I spend extended time with a subject. A quote from one of my biggest influences, Vija Celmins, comes to mind when thinking about time in art-making:
“The reason I do images that require so much time is that I feel the physical work itself lets some other thing [come] through, letting something unconsciously seep through, some subtleties that my brain was not capable of figuring out.”
